01Outline of Cylinder (Barrel)
The cylinder as a heating unit must be thermally stable (cylinder wall thickness) to maintain constant melt temperature. In addition, very high level of straightness (+0.02) is required to prevent generation of over heat while the screw is rotating.
02Cylinder Wear
Cylinder wear is caused by the friction at the screw head (last Front 4D), corrosive gas, and the friction at the resin feed throat (first 5D) for metering.
Max. allowable wear
Low viscosity resin -0.1mm, High viscosity resin -0.2mm
03Cylinder Selection
More and more highly abrasive compounds reinforced with glass fiber or filler and super engineering plastics are developed and used. To this end, the cylinders must be made with the materials highly resistant to wear and corrosion.
